When I get the hiccups they are actually quite painful, so I want them gone fast! I've found that eating a teaspoon of sugar gets rid of them immediately.

Short Circuit Your Hiccups
Gym Rat
Posted August 11, 2008
My grandfather had this theory that most everything in the body was controlled by electric pulses. He maintained hiccups could be cured by shorting out the circuit that caused them. His "short circuit" method never failed him. Just slip a metal butter knife into a glass of water, place the top of the knife against your temple and slowly sip the water. After a few sips the hiccups will be cured.

My time-tested remedy for hiccups is to fill a glass with water, place a clean kitchen towel over it and sip the entire glass of water through the towel. This works every time for me.
