FES2: Toxic Chinese Drywall

Chinese drywall, installed in many homes throughout the United States, is known to contain dangerous compounds such as FES2 that can make you sick.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has requested additional funds from Congress in order to investigate manufacturing plants in China that are allegedly creating the toxic drywall.

Originally thought to be a problem confined to Florida, reports are now coming in from all over the United States (Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Virginia and North Carolina)

The drywall was imported from China during the housing boom, and roughly 5 million square feet are said to be in the country and may be in more than 100,000 homes.

The Environmental Protection Agency has been working dilligently to identify homes contaminated with Chinese drywall, which contains toxic compounds such as: butanethial, carbonyl sulfide, hydrogen sulfide, mercaptan, methylthio pyridone, sulfuric acid, sulfurous acid, sulfur dioxide and stronium sulfide.

The main concern for everyone living in a recently built house is the possiblity of FES2, or Iron Sulfide - this compound is extremely hazardous to your health.

2. Irritated eyes
3. Persistent headaches
4. Nose bleeds
5. Wheezing
6. Coughing
7. Sneezing
8. Difficulty breathing

Or other symptoms are similar to those of asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory illnesses. These health concerns are causing many to leave their homes.

The young, elderly, and those with asthma and chemical sensitivities are particularly at risk.
